I wish there were a way to grab all of one sort of tag from across one's friendslist.

In other words, I have finally moved on to watching the new season of Doctor Who, and want to know why I should be bonding with Eleven.

Because I'm not bonding. But it seriously took me about eight episodes to bond with Ten (though I stopped wailing about wanting Nine back somewhere around the third ep). And by the end, I loved Ten as much as I loved Nine (if not much more, but hey). I'm hoping that happens here, too...

Anyway, if you feel passionately about Eleven (either direction), and want me to understand why, if you drop me a comment with your Who tags, I'll loff you forever. Or at least a good long while.

I just bonded in the series FINALE. Just sayin'.

Hm. Good datapoint.

FWIW, I did remember your post saying that Caitlin seemed to have found HER doctor--and I can see why he works for a kid. :)

Tennant remains my favorite Doctor of all time, but I very much like Smith's take on the character. I'm a little surprised he didn't grow on you just through his first episode--he did me--but he continues to do so throughout the season. He's a different Doctor than Ten (or Nine); quirkier, perhaps one could even say "madder." It, plus the actor's age, can be a bit jarring at first. But as the season progresses, he really makes the part his own--and, most impressively, really makes you believe that he's an old, old, old man who happens to be wearing a young body. And his performance in the two-part season finale is absolutely astonishing.

Or, in short, if it took Tennant a while to grab you, give Smith at least as long. He'll win you over.

BTW, forgive me for not linking to my Who tags, but over half of my Who posts are actually cross-posted from my website, and thus not tagged at all.

Hm. I liked him better in the first ep than in the later handful, actually.

Well, in any case, there's no giving up on Who in our house; I just, you know. Want to know if I'm going to be doing anything but twiddling my thumbs and waiting for Dr. Song to show back up.

The two episodes immediately following "The Eleventh Hour" are among the weakest of the season. I don't think you'll be twiddling your thumbs.

I never bonded with Ten the way I did with Nine (even though I think Tennant is a fantastic actor), although I fully expected to bond with Ten. I've bonded with Eleven more than Ten (but still less than Nine). I really do love the way the very young-looking Smith plays the character as so very old, but beyond that, I think Doctor-bonding is a mysterious and ineffable process...

I've read that with several on my flist - that they didn't bond with him until much later in the series. I've only watched 2 eps yet, and so far he isn't really doing it for me either. But hopefully that'll come once I sit down and watch it all.

In my case, I was so entirely DONE with Ten's ~MANPAIN~ by the end of the specials that I was desperately eager to bond with Eleven. So my favorite thing about Eleven is... let me see how this was phrased at the con I went to last weekend. It was something like this:

The Ninth Doctor was psychologically still in the Time War, holding it together because he felt he had to. The Tenth Doctor was trying desperately to pretend that he didn't have PTSD. The Eleventh Doctor is back on his meds and doing much better. That's my favorite thing about Eleven. :)

Also, my own Doctor Who posts tend to be useless and unpersuasive capslocking, but here are the Doctor Who tags of a couple of people whose reactions I always look forward to seeing:

Well, I was sort of egging David Tennant on to keep chewing the scenery through the last two specials, so I do feel that.

He had me from his first encounter with wee!Amy.

I think the thing that fascinates me is that, for being the youngest man to play the Doctor, Matt Smith's portayal actually sells me on the Doctor being 900+ years old. There's a certain bittersweet quality to him--I can buy that he went through all of Ten's ~MANPAIN~, but he's obviously processed it and come out the other side, still retaining that Sense of Wonder that is ineffably The Doctor.

The wee!Amy bits were nice. I liked that solemn little red-headed girl. :)

On the other hand, that was far and away my favorite stuff, and nothing that's come since has wooed me so much. But it's early days yet.

Mostly I didn't read him as anything but slightly terrified of River Song, and not necessarily in an interesting or in-character way. It was so not the relationship that had been established in the library story. The words were right, but the emotion conveyed was all wrong.

I think for me the growing pains this year have more to do with the new producer and the story choices. Too many of the stories "feel" like horror instead of SF. I'd like to see more variety in the tone. I see a lot of potential in eleven. Currently I like him, but wouldn't say I've 100% bonded yet. I'm hopeful. I'm looking forward to the finale, which I've heard many people rave about.

Coral, who is five, says she likes eleven because he's funny.
