Ways & Means

Favorite Ways to Catwax, #427:

Be concerned that too high a percentage of your short story titles begin with the letter H. Write down all letters of the alphabet, diagnose true proportions, and start thinking up new stories you can write that start with B, Q and Z.

Ha!

Awesome.

*admires*

That is some truly beautiful catwaxing there. I'm sure the letters B, Q, and Z appreciate that their interests are being represented ;)

I'm a bit concerned for W, as well, as all my W titles are obscene and are unlikely to get written.

Time to start making up a new pen name...

The problem is, SOMEone somewhere will still know it's me.

Unless I set up a shadow corporation.

Wow.

I bow to your mightyness.

How about 1 title that uses words starting with all neglected letters?

"Babe, Quit Zoning at Work!"

I realize that's not exactly the point, but hey.

There's a hidden meaning in that, isn't there?

I have totally never done anything like that before ever.

I have also never scrutinized my collection of paperbacks to see which letters of the alphabet I was missing, and then tried to cultivate an interest in authors beginning with the neglected letters.

While shelving at the library, I always noticed how few authors surnames begin with N, which I thought of as a common letter.

Yeah, the only one in my collection is Garth Nix. And I don't have any O's at all anymore, though that's not as surprising.

Nope. O'Connor is filed in my brain under "things I resent having been made to read in high school." My own book collection is nearly all genre stuff. *g*

I don't have any either, except maybe in anthologies. For me she's under "short stories I was supposed to read in college but never did."

Of course you haven't.

I have a list of letters with which I have not started story titles: J, K, Q, X, Y, and Z.

It appears on my "long-term to-do list."

Very sad.

Well, I'm glad I'm not the only one...
